2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport vs 2018 Subaru Crosstrek near Leon Valley, TX

There are many great vehicles in the small-crossover SUV segment, which can make it overwhelming for customers to find the perfect fit for their needs. Small families who are searching for an affordable SUV with plenty of capability, a comfortable ride, and driver-oriented features have many great vehicles to choose from. Two popular models in the segment including the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. If you are trying to decide which model is right for you, continue reading below as we compare these two great vehicles!

2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Power & Handling

The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is available with two excellent engines, starting with the standard 2.0-liter inline-4 that offers 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with either a five-speed manual or a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Front-wheel or all-wheel drive is also available with this engine. Customers can instead opt for the 2.4-liter inline-4 engine that provides 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque - it is linked to the CVT and is available with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek Power & Handling

There is only one engine available with the Subaru Crosstrek for 2018. This engine, a 2.0-liter flat-4, provides 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. It is available with either a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic. Subaru vehicles are known for providing capability and the Crosstrek is no different, but it comes at an expense; the vehicle provides a ride that is far from athletic, lacking the fun and power found in competitors like the Outlander Sport.

2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Features & Design

Mitsubishi has loaded their Outlander Sport with a wide range of standard equipment, offering customers an incredible value and great features. Highlights of the vehicle's base model include automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a rearview camera. The exterior also boasts 18-inch alloy wheels and LED taillights. Some of the luxury amenities that Mitsubishi offers with their Outlander Sport include leather seating, a Rockford Fosgate audio system, and a panoramic glass roof.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek Features & Design

The Crosstrek is available in three trim levels, and the base model comes equipped with features like cruise control, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, 17-inch wheels, and a rearview camera. It also has an AM/FM stereo. Subaru does offer some better features on the Crosstrek's higher trim levels, like heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 6-speaker audio system, and vanity mirrors on the sun visors. The luxury features that are found on the vehicle's top trim include 18-inch wheels, a CD player, and keyless access with push-button start. This comes at a cost though, as the top trim has an MSRP above $30,000.

Conclusions

For 2018, the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport offers the best value for families who need great affordability without sacrificing comfort, drive-quality, or fun. It provides amazing features at every level, particularly with the well-equipped base model, and the ability to choose between two engines makes it easy to create a dynamic ride. The Crosstrek lacks the driving finesse of the Outlander Sport, and the base model fails to impress with its standard features.
