2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport vs 2019 Mazda CX-5 near Leon Valley, TX

The process of finding and buying a new vehicle can be a challenge, especially with so many impressive options out there today. This is especially true in the small crossover SUV segment, where all of the SUVs are bringing their A game. In order to help you out as much as possible, we've picked out two of the top competitors in the segment. These SUVs include the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and the 2019 Mazda CX-5. The next step then becomes comparing them. For starters, the 2019 Outlander Sport adds blind-spot warning to the SE trim and replaces the SEL trim with a GT trim level. The 2019 CX-5 adds Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, makes ventilated front seats and a surround-view parking camera available and gives you a powerful engine option for the higher trims. Interested in finding out which of these SUVs comes out on top? Keep reading down below as we got more in depth as to what the Outlander Sport and CX-5 can offer you!

2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Power & Handling

Two engines are available with the Outlander Sport. The first of these is the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, which can output up to 145 pound-feet of torque and 148 horsepower. The standard transmission paired with this engine is a five-speed manual transmission, although with a higher trim besides the ES, you'll be getting a continuously variable automatic transmission. The other available engine comes with the GT model, and is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, which creates 167 pound-feet of torque and 168 horsepower. A continuously variable automatic transmission is standard with this engine. This amount of power means you won't have any issues going up hills, and bringing your family around for a fun joy ride.

2019 Mazda CX-5 Power & Handling

Like the Outlander Sport, the CX-5 also comes with two engine options. The first of these comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission, and is a 2.5-liter inline-4. This engine can produce around 186 pound-feet of torque and 187 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available. The other available engine, which is new to 2019, is a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-4. This engine comes standard with the same six-speed automatic transmission, but instead works with all-wheel drive as standard. While these engines do give you power, Mitsubishi is better known for their reliable engines than Mazda, making a Mitsubishi engine better to put your trust in.

2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Features & Design

The Mitsubishi offers you four different trim levels to choose from. The first of these, called the ES, comes standard with a USB port, 18-inch alloy wheels, a four-speaker audio system, heated mirrors, a rearview camera, remote locking and unlocking, a 7-inch touchscreen display, cruise control, Bluetooth, automatic climate control, 60/40-split folding rear seatbacks, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a driver information display, and a height-adjustable driver's seat. Another option, the LE, adds an extra USB port, fog lights, satellite radio, LED running lights, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, heated front seats, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The highest available trim is the GT, which includes automatic emergency braking, xenon headlights, forward collision warning, automatic wipers, lane departure warning, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power-adjustable driver's seat, exterior and interior styling tweaks, and leather upholstery.

2019 Mazda CX-5 Features & Design

Five trim levels are included with the Mazda CX-5. The first trim is the Sport, which includes rear cross-traffic alert, 17-inch wheels, blind-spot monitoring, LED headlights, low-speed forward collision warning and mitigation, push-button ignition, two USB ports, a 7-inch touchscreen, a 4-speaker sound system, manually adjustable front seats, Bluetooth, 40/20/40-split reclining rear seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Another model, the Touring, adds two USB ports, automatic wipers, two additional speakers, keyless entry, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, and simulated-leather upholstery. The top trim is Signature, which adds front and rear parking sensors, ambient cabin lighting, a surround-view camera, premium leather upholstery, and wood trim accents.

Conclusions

While these two SUVs hold many similarities, the reliability and the styling of the Outlander Sport make this an SUV that cannot be beaten. The two available engines, and the four trim options, allow you to transform your Outlander Sport into the SUV you've always wanted.
